You can customise our free CV templates

The great thing about using a professionally made CV template is that you can customise it to suit your needs. If the template is perfect as it is – then great! Just simply insert your CV content and it’s ready to go. But if you want to edit and adjust the template to better suit your tastes, then go ahead. Our templates are designed specifically so you can customise them as much as you want.

You can change the font

The choice of font is probably one of the most important stylistic decisions you can make when it comes to the presentation of your CV. Get this right and your CV will look professional and present your credentials in the best possible way. But get this wrong and it may not matter how highly qualified you are.

The fonts we’ve chosen for each template have been carefully selected to ensure they not only look professional, but are also well suited to the template and the career example. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if you want to change the font style or even the size, then don’t hesitate to do so.

Here are some of the most commonly used fonts for a CV –

  • Arial
  • Helvetica
  • Tahoma
  • Trebuchet
  • Verdana
  • Garamond
  • Times New Roman
  • Open Sans

You choose how creative

When it comes to being creative, you will notice that some of our templates like to use colour and be a little more adventurous than you might expect. Although the traditional black and white CV is still more than acceptable, employers are now seeing more creative and adventurous applications landing in their inbox.

Using colour on a CV is a delicate process. You want just enough colour so that your CV stands out from the crowd and creates a memorable and positive impression. But not too much colour that you put the hiring manager off from reading it!

Light colours tend to be the best approach for a CV. Light blues and greens are a popular choice as they are less intrusive on the page. Lighter shades are also less aggressive and blend better into the white of the page. However, darker and more aggressive colours like red and orange can have the opposite effect.

Using colour is a very tricky process. It can also be time consuming, and of course – very risky. That’s why we’ve created lots of different CV templates with colour so you can decide if it’s the right fit for you. But don’t forget, we have literally hundreds of free CV templates to choose from and they are all customisable – so if a splash of colour isn’t right for you, then move on and choose something else.

Top tip – creative roles benefit the most from CV templates with colour. If you’re applying for a job in graphic design then you may even be expected to create something a little wacky and memorable. Your CV may instantly be under scrutiny if your chosen career is in the creation or design sector. It won’t just be your content that’s under review, it will also be the design of your CV template.
